Maple Spring 2 2026

Posted: Mar 20, 2026 by: Debbie Bagwell (dbagwell) on: Maple Class

What We’ve Been Up To This Term!

It’s been a wonderfully busy and exciting term in Maple class, and we wanted to share some of the fantastic learning experiences and adventures we’ve enjoyed together!

Boccia Tournament

Some of our pupils showed brilliant teamwork and accuracy during our Boccia tournament. Everyone gave it their best, cheering each other on and celebrating every successful throw. The focus and sportsmanship on display were amazing, and we came home with some great medals.

Supermarket Visits

We’ve been out into the community for our supermarket visits, practising real‑life skills such as writing shopping lists, finding items, handling money and using self‑checkout machines. The pupils were confident, polite, and incredibly proud of their independence.

Trips to the Café

Nothing beats learning with a warm drink in hand! At the café, pupils practised ordering food, making choices and interacting with staff. It was a lovely opportunity to build confidence and social communication in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.

PE at the Tennis Centre & Gym Workouts

Our sessions at the Tennis Centre have been full of energy! From developing football skills to working on coordination and movement, everyone has been fully engaged. We’ve also enjoyed gym workouts where pupils loved trying new equipment and challenging themselves physically.

Science – Forces and Magnets

In science, we’ve explored the wonderful world of forces and magnets. Pupils experimented with pushes and pulls, tested magnetic materials, and even predicted which objects would attract or repel. Lots of curiosity and brilliant hands‑on investigating!

Design Technology – Rotary Mechanisms

Our DT project this term has focused on rotary mechanisms. Pupils created their own windmills and water wheels, carefully assembling parts and seeing how rotation makes movement possible. It’s been a great blend of creativity, problem‑solving and engineering skills.

English – Roald Dahl Characters

In English, we’ve been diving into the imaginative world of Roald Dahl. From the mischievous antics of characters like The Twits to the magical charm of Matilda and the BFG, pupils have explored descriptions, character traits and storytelling in fun, engaging ways.

Duke of Edinburgh – Volunteering

As part of our Duke of Edinburgh programme, pupils have been litter‑picking in the local area. Their enthusiasm for taking care of the environment and contributing to the community has been inspiring. They’ve shown responsibility, dedication and pride in their volunteering work.

Interventions – Soundboard, Conductive & Hydrotherapy

Alongside all our curriculum learning, pupils have also taken part in targeted interventions tailored to their needs. These have included:

  • Soundboard sessions for communication and sensory engagement
  • Conductive sessions to support physical development
  • Hydrotherapy, offering movement, relaxation and therapeutic benefits

These sessions have supported pupils’ wellbeing and progress beautifully.

We’re incredibly proud of everything the class has achieved so far. It’s been a term packed full of learning, exploration and fun—and we can’t wait to see what the next one brings!
