Our Primary Curriculum

Pupils in our primary department are in year groups Y1 to Y6.

Key Stage 1: Yr1 - Yr2

Key Stage 2: Yr 3 - Yr 6

They are taught in mixed ability groups with between 8 and 10 children in each class.

Each class has a class teacher, a level 3 teaching assistant and additional support staff to meet the individual needs of pupils.

 Our primary curriculum is responsive to each learner and aims to build on existing strengths and interests. It focuses on developing the key skills of communication, cognition, independence, physical development and self-care - all of which will support each pupil as he or she prepares to move on into the secondary department.

Through a creative approach to the curriculum we strive to provide opportunities for pupils to actively engage in learning through;

  • play
  • doing and touching
  • use of the outdoor learning environment and the natural world
  • flexible groupings and the effective use of staff

The school operates a 4 year rolling programme of themes to ensure we offer breadth and balance in the pupils' learning opportunities. The themes for 2023 - 2024 are;

Autumn: Music Mosaic Spring : My Amazing World Summer: Plant, Grow and Eat!
Key Stage 1 Making music Big, wide world A farmer's work is never done!
